25 Middle Schoolers Compete in First-Ever Spelling Bee

Seventh grade student Anik Subramanian became the first-ever Middle School champion speller.

Monday night 25 Hasbrouck Heights Middle School students became the very first to compete in the school’s first annual spelling bee. Seventh grade student Anik Subramanian was declared the champion, along with eighth grade student Lauren Cappadona who came in second place and seventh grade student Hannah Balcer who placed third. Anik will go on to compete in a regional competition representing Hasbrouck Heights Middle School.All three students will receive certificates and a prize later in the week. Principal Joseph Mastropietro said parents had hoped to see a spelling bee event at the school for some time and the Junior Beta Club stepped in to sponsor the event. Fifth Grader Represents Junior Women's Club in State Spelling Bee

Krutika Thakkar came in sixth place in the state competition

Krutika Thakkar, a fifth grade student at Euclid School, came in sixth place in the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs – Junior Membership State Spelling Bee this weekend at the federation’s headquarters on the Rutgers University campus. Krutika competed against 17 other fourth and fifth grade students from across the state. She lasted eight rounds coming in sixth place overall. After 10 rounds and an additional 4-round spell-off to determine the second- and third-place finalists, “miserable” was the winning word for Long Valley fifth grader Kaitlin Cheung. Fifth grader Jennie Shih came in second on behalf of the River Edge Juniors and third place was fifth grader Ronnie Melao of the Westfield Juniors. Fifth Graders Represent Junior Women's Club in North Jersey Spelling Bee

Fifth grader Krutika Thakkar came in third and will be entered into the state competition.

Hasbrouck Heights fifth grade students Krutika Thakkar, Zachary Hauptman and Haider Syed competed in the Northern Region Spelling Bee on behalf of the Junior Women’s Club in the GFWC Northern Region of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Club last week in Park Ridge. Thakkar of Euclid School placed third in the event securing herself a place in the State Spelling Bee where she will compete against fourth and fifth grade students from throughout New Jersey at the NJSFWC headquarters on the campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick on March 10. Hauptman, Thakkar and Syed were the top three winners of the Junior Women’s Club Spelling Bee which was held last month at the high school. Hauptman took first place, Thakkar took second …
