Heights Seeks Solution for Salon's Altered Entrance

Borough engineer suggests a railing be installed at the entrance of Primadonna Salon to resolve the elevated access to the salon caused by the recent new sidewalk and handicap accessible ramp installation.

Talks between the borough and the owner of Primadonna Salon continue as a solution is being sought for the salon's entrance which was altered as a result of the recent new sidewalk installation on the Boulevard. Instaling a railing at the front of the salon is the suggested best option, accordin to Borough Engineer Ken Job who reported to the mayor and council Tuesday on his recent meeting with the salon's owner Susan Sconzo and Borough Administrator Mike Kronyak. The salon, which is located at the corner of Franklin and Boulevard, previously had a slight incline at the entrance but the installation of new sidewalks and  handicapped accessible curb ramps brought down the grade and now two steps were created at the entrance of her salon as …

Roadwork on Boulevard Begins

New crosswalks are being put in this week at the intersections of Franklin, Jefferson and Hamilton as part of the streetscape project.

Work started Thursday to put in news crosswalks at three intersections along the Boulevard, the last major construction in this current phase of the Boulevard streetscape project. Drivers can expect some delays or possible detours in the area while work is being done this week. Signs alerted drivers Thursday to the milled roadway and raised manholes on the Boulevard at Franklin, Jefferson and Hamilton avenues. The new crosswalks will resemble the ones at Washington and Kipp which were put in about two years ago when the Boulevard project first began. They are made of a plastic substance that is molded and shaped to resemble bricks but the material is said to hold up against weather conditions better than real brick would. This phase of the…

I was down there tonight for the first time. The sidewalks are nice, but it looks terrible otherwise. It is embarrassing to see those big trees missing -- what a horrible thing to have done.   more ›

It's also difficult to walk, shop, wait for a bus, etc. now that the trees are gone as well. Is there any plans to put the benches back at the bus stops? Better yet, they should put the covered benches at the bus stops.   more ›

Streetscape Work to Boulevard Planned for Summer

Construction to two streets along the Boulevard, Jefferson up to Hamilton, is now said to begin in a few weeks and completed by September.

Work to refurbish the next two streets on the Boulevard slated for the ongoing streetscape project is now said to begin in the coming weeks and completion is expected just before school starts in September.   Borough Engineer Ken Job told the mayor and council this week the project hasn’t begun yet as public service is working to determine if their electric junction boxes will need to be replaced. He explained that ADA requirements may result in the need to change the elevation of the boxes and a definite answer is needed before they can begin ripping up the sidewalks. Recently it had been said the project could start at the end of May. The work involves removing the existing trees, and putting in new sidewalks, pavers and lighting to the …
