Two men and a woman were being held at Bergen County Jail after allegedly taking part in a mugging in front of Heights Pharmacy and then dragging the victim with their getaway vehicle Saturday morning, Hasbrouck Heights Police said Monday. Fire officials said the youngster's quick action in calling 911 helped them keep the fire contained to the rear of the house. The Hasbrouck Heights woman and a 56-year-old Ringwood man were found dead Sunday at the Revel Resort in Atlantic City. A 31-year old Lodi man was the victim of a hit-and-run accident on Williams Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights April 6. Authorities believe a 4-door Honda Accord was involved. Taking a look ahead at the week in Hasbrouck Heights
Coming up this week on Patch Hasbrouck Heights schools are on spring break this week and the public library has a number of activities planned for the kids. On Tuesday the library will host the popular Book Bingo event at 11 a.m. where kids can play the game based on favorite book characters for a prize. On Wednesday the library will screen "Wreck-It-Ralph" from 3 to 4:30 p.m. On Thursday the library hosts a craft project from 3 to 4 p.m. The programs are offered to kids in grades K - 6. Also this week the mayor and council will conduct its regular public meeting followed by the monthly work session Tuesday at 8 p.m. The municipal budget, which was introduced at the last meeting, will not be up for public hearing until the April 23 meeting…

This week begins with the official retirement of one of Hasbrouck Heights Police Department's longtime veterans. Captain Joseph Cronin retires April 1 after 26 years with the department. He was head of the department's patrol division. Cronin's retirement marks the fourth in the past year. In 2012, Lt. Thomas Archer after 26 years, Lt. Thomas Tozzi and Captain Jack Delorenzo, both after 25 years. Recently two probationary patrolmen were hired and are currently in the police academy expected to join the force in June when they graduate. Mickey’s Kids Foundation has done it again. Thanks to its hundreds of supporters who came to the foundation’s annual gala fundraiser Friday night at Ill Villagio in Carlstadt, the foundation will sponsor another Canine Assistants service dog for a child in need. Talks between the governing body and the PBA Local 102 did not result in any changes to a set of proposed procedures for promotions within the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department which were challenged by the union members at a meeting earlier this month. More discussion regarding a proposed set of rules for how police promotions would be granted is expected for the Tuesday night mayor and council meeting. Earlier this month a group of PBA members came out in protest against the proposed rules calling them "unfair" asking for an open discussion. The PBA members had claimed they had not learned of the proposed promotion procedures until they saw a legal advertisement in the local newspaper. The governing body moved to continue the public hearing in order to allow time for PBA leaders and their attorney to meet with the police committee before moving ahead.
